Estimated false or misleading claims
Trump Lie Counter
A projection for the second term, using a historical average. It stops at the scheduled term end on January 20, 2029 at noon Eastern.
Method
Projection, not a live database
The Washington Post Fact Checker cataloged 30,573 false or misleading claims during Trump's first term. This page divides that by the first term's 1,461 days, then applies the daily rate to the time elapsed since Jan. 20, 2025 at noon Eastern.
Source: Washington Post Fact Checker claims database. The label says "false or misleading claims" because the source tracks both categories.
What does this estimate measure?
This counter extrapolates a historical average. It does not verify statements from the current term, count newly fact-checked claims, or establish intent. The display rounds to whole claims. Elapsed time is limited to the scheduled four-year term, so the projection stops growing on January 20, 2029 at noon Eastern.
